Sturm,
Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR), the nation’s
largest firearms manufacturer, is proud to introduce
the Ruger New Vaquero family of single action
revolvers. The Ruger Vaquero is often referred to as
the gun that won the New West because of its
widespread popularity among single action shooters
and cowboy action event competitors. The Ruger New
Vaquero, with its new size and new features, is sure
to exceed even the legendary reputation of the
original Ruger Vaquero.“Since its introduction in
1993, the Ruger Vaquero has dominated the cowboy
action shooting world. The Vaquero has earned its
reputation for rugged reliability because of its
strength and mechanical superiority,” said Sturm,
Ruger President, Stephen L. Sanetti. “The New
Vaquero combines the original ‘Old West’ single
action look and feel with new features sure to be
appreciated by competitive shooters.”
The New Vaquero incorporates Sturm, Ruger’s
slimmer pre-1962 “XR-3” style grip frame and a
smaller cylinder frame with a unique reverse
indexing pawl, which positively aligns the cylinder
with the loading gate cutout for easy loading and
unloading of cartridges. The New Vaquero also
features a recontoured hammer and new hammer spring
for the smoothest, easiest cocking ever. Other new
features include a beveled cylinder for easier
holstering, checkered “hard rubber” grips, and a
crescent-shaped ejector rod head. The New Vaquero
family will include both“color-case” blued and
stainless steel models in .357 Magnum and .45 Colt
calibers, with barrels lengths of 4 5/8”, 5 1/2”,
and 7 1/2”.
“Those who want to personalize their New Vaquero
will find a variety of accessories and services
available from Sturm, Ruger,” stated Sanetti. “From
simulated ivory grips and leather holsters to custom
engraving, Sturm, Ruger can help the New Vaquero
owner create a one-of-a-kind firearm, or in the case
of a cowboy shooter, a unique pair!”
